First time at a computer!
We flew through washington in just 4 days, friday to monday, covering about 500km in 4 days. Tuesday we took our first bus which crossed a 4.2 mile bridge over the mouth of the Columbia river (very long bridge with a narrow shoulder... not really bikeable. The bus thing resulted from us following the advice of a trucker lady we chatted with at our greasy spoon breakfast in Ilwaco, WA, that morning). It lead us into Astoria, Oregon, and since that morning the weather has been unreal - clear blue skies through the Oregon Coast. We stopped at Cannon Beach which is everything it's advertised as and more (look out for photos later...) and stayed at a fantastic campsite right by the Ocean where some surfers offered us cheap beer and gave us advice for breakfast and lunch the next day (i.e. today).
A skunk stole and went through our almost empty food bag which we didn't have a food box for last night! The skunk-thief succesfully unclipped the food bag from a picnic table and dragged it into the woods, over a log crossing a stream, and into his lair which was full of stolen items from many unfortunate campers before us. I know this because Madalene successfully followed very faint dry marks into the woods, crawling in a log over a stream, and at the mouth of the skunk's lair, where the bag was lying, nice and smelly, and of course completely void of its contents.
That lovely odour is following us around for now. I try not to ride too closely behind Madalene who has the bag on her rack.
Hopefully more computer access soon.
